According to a report by the media agency on Saturday, Pakistan is now in talks with a business based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to install e-gates at the airports in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
However, this will improve self-immigration services that are comparable to those in industrialized countries.
E-Gates Installation at Major Airports of Pakistan
Airport sources disclosed that e-gates installation planned for Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Allama Iqbal Airport in Lahore, and Islamabad International Airport to expedite immigration procedures for travelers hailing from advanced nations.
With the help of this program, travelers at these important airports in Pakistan should be able to pass through automated self-service immigration barriers more quickly and easily, doing away with the need for lines.
Travelers at the chosen airports in Pakistan will be able to conveniently use automated self-service immigration barriers, just like at airports in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dubai, and other developed countries, as long as they have an e-passport.
Automated Border Control Systems (ABC)
Automated border control systems (ABC), sometimes referred to as e-gates, use biometric passport data that stored on a chip to confirm the identity of the passport holder upon arrival.
Prior to this, on July 21, Khawaja Saad Rafique, the former minister of aviation, declared that Islamabad airport will be outsourced for a period of 15 years in order to improve operational effectiveness.
This decision made clear that it was not the same as privatization, but rather an attempt to draw in competent operators to enhance airport operations.
He emphasized that the process would include open competitive bidding, which would ensure that the best bidder would run the airport, resulting in a profit-oriented approach that benefits the national exchequer.
