Beijing played host to the 12th (Special) Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting regarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The conference was co-chaired by Ahsan Iqbal, the federal minister for planning, development, and special initiatives, and Cong Liang, the vice chairman of China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC).
The minister spoke about how CPEC is an impressive project that represents the strong bonds between China and Pakistan. He reflected on how this project had been pivotal in changing the regional economy. It has promoted communication, boosted commerce, and unlocked fresh opportunities for widespread wealth.
CPEC is high priority for Pakistan
The minister reaffirmed that CPEC is Pakistan’s highest priority under the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, adding said these channels offered a chance to build on past successes and expand the scope of future collaboration. While many accomplishments had been made, he said, there was still tremendous room for growth and development in the areas of agriculture, industry, technology, and mining.
Joint Working Group (JWG) conveners on energy, transportation infrastructure, and Gwadar Port updated participants on recent developments and discussed next steps at the meeting.
The JCC also emphasized the significance of the significant energy and infrastructure development projects, many of which are now complete and opening up a wealth of possibilities for Pakistan’s economic and social progress.
Both countries’ highest-ranking officials and representatives from the many ministries and departments responsible for CPEC-related issues were present.
