Over the weekend, torrential rainstorms and strong winds pounded the United Arab Emirates (UAE), causing property damage and interfering with daily life for the locals.
Several sources claim that the UAE’s ‘cloud-seeding’ policy, which is employed to increase rainfall in order to alleviate the country’s water deficit crisis, is to blame for the recent weather disturbances.
Cloud seeding is being used to combat water scarcity, according to the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM), the UAE’s meteorological reporting body.
Residents have also been urged by NCM to exercise caution as rain is forecast to persist in various parts of the nation.
The Dubai Municipality was compelled to prohibit night swimming on Sunday. The action was made as a safeguard against the emirate’s changing weather circumstances.
After Al Ain was slammed by heavy rain and hail on Friday, Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman saw another round of stormy weather on Saturday, including dust storms, thunder, and rain.
Additionally, Al Barsha, Al Marmoom, Al Barari, Emirates Road, Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road, Al Qudra Road, and Al Ain-Dubai Road were all affected by intense downpours, according to NCM.
In addition, a dust storm covered a number of areas of Dubai just before Karama, Deira, and Oud Metha had moderate to heavy rains.
The NCM has issued a warning that the severe weather is anticipated to last through Tuesday, August 8. In some western regions, Monday’s weather is expected to be humid with a probability of mist.
Over the eastern coast, low clouds will return in the morning, and there’s a chance of convective cloud formation or rain in the late afternoon.
