Sinopec, energy behemoth of China, has developed cutting-edge technology that allows its drilling rigs to reach depths of up to 10,000 meters in search of oil and gas, making it one of the few countries with such capabilities.
The drilling of Asia’s deepest oil and gas well was officially opened by China’s top petrochemical goods provider.
At the edge of the Taklimakan Desert, the drillers anticipate reaching a depth of 9,472 meters, or more than 600 meters deeper than the peak of Mount Qomolangma. This historic well is yet another illustration of China’s progress in ultra-deep well drilling. The ultra-deep well’s drilling rig is a true physical monument, weighing in at than 500 tons and standing at the equivalent of 20 stories. The massive machine has a lifting capacity of about 600 tons, or 120 full-grown elephants.
