Tariq Malik, the head of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), resigned after being accused of corruption in the procurement of the Iris identification system. The resignation was accepted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
On June 6, Malik received a summons from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which was looking for PC-1, IRIS system purchase records, $3.5 million in payments, and related tenders and newspaper advertisements.

Additionally, NAB sought to examine the specific rules and regulations that NADRA had given to its contractors. Additionally, it was said that Malik had a travel ban put on him by the Federal inquiry Agency (FIA), preventing him from leaving the country until the inquiry was finished.
A NADRA representative claims that Malik gave the prime minister his resignation during a meeting they had at the PM House.
The official also stated that PM Shehbaz valued Malik’s leadership as NADRA chairman.
The prime minister expressed the hope that Malik will carry on contributing to the growth and prosperity of the nation in the future.
After the meeting, Malik released a statement in which he claimed that during his two years in charge, he had established more than 45 cutting-edge services and facilities.
In order to prepare Pakistan for the digital revolution, he further stated that the UN has just selected him as the head of the technical advisory council for the “National Human Development Report 2023.”
In addition to being an honour, Tariq Malik continued, this gave him a great opportunity to further his purpose.
In addition, he would continue to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) initiatives from the UN platform, which would strengthen the Pakistani parliament.
