The Federal Cabinet has given its preliminary approval to the Personal Data Protection Bill, which would ensure the security of users’ private information.
The Federal Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, reportedly gave its preliminary OK to the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication’s proposed Personal Data Protection Bill 2023 today.
As a result of this legislation, the government will mandate the protection of user data and information across all industries. Users may rest certain that their data will not be sold or transferred to other parties without their express consent.
The personal data protection bill will be signed
The Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism has announced that a civil court, the National Commission for Personal Data Protection (NCPDP), will be set up to safeguard consumers’ personal information and data and hear complaints.
If the Federal Cabinet approves the Data Protection Bill in principle, the ministry says it will be sent to the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Affairs (CCLC) in accordance with established procedures and then brought back to the Cabinet for final approval.
The Bill will be introduced in the Parliament after it has received final approval from the Federal Cabinet. Once passed by both the House of Representatives and the Senate, it will become law and take effect immediately.
