Indian cricket’s governing body has conditionally warmed up to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) hybrid model proposal for the Asia Cup.
Most Asian countries, including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, have been persuaded by the PCB’s suggestion that next matches be played in neutral locations.
However, India’s approval of the plan is contingent on Pakistan’s promise to travel to India in October 2023 for the World Cup.
While reports indicate that the BCCI would tone down its stance on the issue, any final decision won’t be made until after the organization’s SGM on May 27.
The Indian cricket board insisted that the entire Asia Cup be relocated from Pakistan to a neutral site. The Indian board’s position has shifted, though, after Pakistan threatened to skip the World Cup.
In all likelihood, the board will vote in favour of Pakistan’s request during the upcoming SGM in the Indian city of Ahmedabad.
PCB threatened to pull out of World Cup if India doesn’t participate in Asia Cup
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi had previously threatened to pull out of the World Cup in India if Asian Cricket Council president and BCCI secretary Jay Shah would not give his approval to Pakistan’s role as a partial host.
What has happened is that India has flat-out refused to participate. The Asia Cup had to be called off. What is it that you need us to do? By then, I will have proposed the same method to the ICC. In my opinion, the ICC’s stance against the hybrid model is not as firm as it formerly was. Sethi stated, “They are waiting to see how it will work out in the Asia Cup,” adding that the situation remained true even though he was unable to elaborate.—Agencies
