Apple may be ratcheting up its efforts in an area that might revolutionize its flagship products, as seen by the company’s posting of dozens of AI-related job advertisements during the past few months.
Currently, at least 88 artificial intelligence-related job openings can be found on the company’s careers page. The responsibilities range from proactive intelligence and applied AI research to visual generative modelling.
The listing for one position suggests that they will be working on a team that will “shape the way generative AI technologies transform Apple’s mobile computing platforms,” which might mean that iPhones and other devices could soon have more AI functionality.
Goals for Artificial Intelligence at Apple
Although Apple has been mum on its AI goals, the job postings give an indication of the company’s aspirations in this area. During Apple’s recent Q2 earnings call, when asked about the company’s AI strategy, CEO Tim Cook declined to share product roadmaps but claimed the technology had “enormous” prospects.
The same idea is expressed in the text of a job posting: “AI represents a huge opportunity to elevate Apple’s products and experiences for billions of people globally.” The job description states that the successful candidate will be responsible for “leveraging state-of-the-art generative models to ship extraordinary products, services, and customer experiences for the iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, iPad, and more.”
Many of the top tech companies are actively researching and developing generative AI. Updates to artificial intelligence (AI) systems that can generate conversational text, images, and code, as well as the underlying infrastructure, have been released by companies including Google, Microsoft, Meta, and others. However, there are also potential downsides to this technology, such as the introduction of bias into AI systems or the accidental disclosure of sensitive information.
Freedom from relying on other AI programmes
A recent article in the Wall Street Journal claims that Apple has banned its employees from utilising ChatGPT and GitHub’s Copilot, two external artificial intelligence applications. According to the article, the company warned its employees against using the software in question because of security concerns.
These changes indicate that Apple is working to advance its own AI initiatives rather than relying on the capabilities of other businesses. the company is in a great position to create cutting-edge AI for its products, what with its massive resources and more than a billion iPhone users.
Cook and other executives have been vague on how Apple wants to incorporate more sophisticated AI into future iterations of the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and other products. They are hopeful for innovation in their technology.
