The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has launched a revamped Faculty Exchange Programme for Pakistani universities. The programme aims to promote academic collaboration between local universities and international institutions. It allows faculty members to gain global exposure and improve teaching, research, and curriculum development in Pakistan.
Objectives of the Programme
The main goals of the Faculty Exchange Programme include strengthening research partnerships, adopting best teaching practices, and enhancing academic governance. It also seeks to provide Pakistani students with access to international expertise and help local faculty learn from global academic standards.
Exchange for Pakistani Faculty
Under the programme, Pakistani faculty members will have the opportunity to teach and conduct research at partner universities abroad. The exchange period may range from 2 to 16 weeks, depending on the agreement with the foreign institution. This experience helps faculty gain international exposure and collaborate on research projects.
Hosting International Faculty in Pakistan
HEC will also invite foreign professors from technologically advanced countries to teach in Pakistani universities. These international faculty members will offer courses at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels. They will also engage in workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance local academic knowledge.
Official Launch and Attendees
The programme was officially launched in a ceremony attended by Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, Ms. Wajiha Qamar, HEC Executive Director Dr. Zia ul Haq, Member HEC Engr. Muhammad Raza Chohan, and the Ambassador of Germany, Ms. Ina Lepel. Vice chancellors and university officials from across Pakistan were also present to support the initiative.
Expected Impact on Pakistani Higher Education
The Faculty Exchange Programme is expected to internationalize Pakistani higher education and improve its quality. By exchanging knowledge, faculty, and best practices, universities can strengthen research, upgrade curricula, and prepare students for global opportunities. This initiative reflects HEC’s commitment to making Pakistan’s higher education globally competitive.
