The minister added that the Universal Service Fund (USF), a subsidiary of the IT ministry, has done record work with the deployment of broadband services in the previous four years while presiding over a meeting of the Policy Committee and Research and Development Fund on Monday.
The number of USF projects was limited to 59 for 13 years, from 2006 to 2019, after which directions were made to increase the number of projects and enhance performance. As a consequence, 65 internet service and optic fiber cable projects have been established since the beginning of 2019, “which is a record.”
By May 30, 2022, the number of telecom subscribers had reached a record high of 193 million as a consequence of telecom policies and the deployment of broadband services to underserved and unserved areas, according to the minister.
In a similar vein, the number of 3G and 4G customers surpassed 114 million, while the number of broadband subscribers surpassed 117 million.
FBR rules, according to Haque, are impeding the growth of IT exports, freelancers, and export remittances. As a result, he claimed, software firms and freelancers were considering moving their operations to other nations.
