You can use Alexa accessories to do things like locate your phone, make a shopping list, start your car, and more.
Amazon has essentially built an app shop dedicated to Alexa. These add-ons, known as Alexa Skills, and a great many of them exist. Here are a few that are really worthwhile.
Find my phone?
The Locate My Phone skill is a godsend for anyone who frequently misplaces their phone.
To have the skill call your phone so you can locate it, just say, “Alexa, find my phone.”
This isn’t nearly as effective as Apple’s and Google’s native device-finding apps—if your ringer is set to mute, for example, you won’t hear it ring—but it does the trick if your phone is within range.
OurGroceroies
You can use the OurGroceries skill frequently on the Echo Dot in our kitchen.
This smartphone app keep track of what you need to restock and then instruct the skill to add it to the shared grocery list.
It’s much more convenient than having a written list on the fridge. The one you always forget until you’re pulling into a parking spot at the supermarket.
Ignite your networked car
You should check to see if your brand has an Alexa skill if you have a cutting-edge connected car from one of the major automakers.
If there is, install it immediately so you may use Alexa to remotely start your car on chilly winter mornings or steamy summer afternoons.
Skills are available for many other makes and models of cars, including Fords, Dodges, Lexuses, Jeeps, Toyotas, Acuras, Hondas, and Hyundais, to name a few.
Zen music
Relaxing can be beneficial after a long day, or even before beginning one.
A dozen high-quality, hour-long sounds, ranging from thunderstorms to beaches to serene gardens, are available to you in the wonderful Zen Sounds skill, which can help you achieve this very goal.
Recorded fictions
The free Audible Stories skill is perfect for both youngsters and adults because it plays short stories from a wide variety of categories.
Simply enable the skill and then say “Alexa, read me a tale” to have the narrative read aloud to you without the requirement for an Audible subscription.
Gigantic guard of Alexa
The Monster Guard talent is essential if your children (or you) suffer from a fear of monsters.
It “scans” the room for monsters, doesn’t locate any (thank goodness), and then uses a force field to keep them out all night.
So that things don’t become stale, “Monty,” the affable monster, says something new in each session, and there are also fascinating sound effects and music.
Minute of sports news
The Sports News Minute skill is an excellent daily refresher for sports fans and casual observers alike.
Complete with scores, news, and other updates, it covers the National Football League, the NBA, Major League Baseball, collegiate sports, golf, and more.
