The federal government‘s decision to increase fuel prices has resulted in a 20% increase in the cost of both interstate and intracity transportation. According to the media, bus fares in Lahore have just increased.
Both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses will have to charge the higher fares. The news has sparked widespread alarm because it means that commuting between cities will cost too much for the vast majority of people.
The transport fare increase with fuel
Earlier today, the federal government increased the price of gasoline and diesel by as much as Rs. 20 a liter. The decision was made with no warning, surprising everyone. High-speed diesel (HSD) is currently priced at Rs. 273.40 per liter. The price of gasoline has also risen significantly, from Rs. 253 to Rs.
Although the rise in gasoline prices has impacted people’s transportation expenditures, it is expected that the rise in diesel prices would cause a similarly large increase in the pricing of general consumer items.
