Sometimes it happens that you can’t seem to find your Apple Watch anywhere in the house. The inability to recall its location can be frustrating. Apple has made it simpler to send a “ping” from an iPhone to an Apple Watch with iOS 17.

Apple Watch: Pinging from an iPhone

  1. Open the iPhone’s Settings menu.
  2. Select the Settings Menu
  3. The “More Controls” button is located here. The ‘+’ button next to Ping My Watch must be tapped.
  4. Once an item has been added to Control Centre, swipe from the top right.
  5. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen on an iPhone with a home button.
  6. The Ping My Watch button should be tapped. The Watch will give off a beeping sound.
  7. Find your missing Apple Watch by following the sound it makes.

Factors to consider

The iPhone must be running iOS 17 either as a public beta or a developer beta. It is anticipated that iOS 17 will be released to the public in the month of September. You’ll have to wait a while if you don’t want to use the public/developer beta.

If you keep your Watch within easy reach at home, you can benefit from this function. If you’ve misplaced or had your Watch stolen, the best bet is to use Apple’s Find My app to look for it. Ping My Watch requires both the iPhone and the Watch to be within range of each other through Wi-Fi or Bluetooth for it to function.
Similar functionality for locating an iPhone using an Apple Watch has been available for some time. For the first time, the opposite is true as well.
