During the keynote presentation for WWDC 2023, Apple introduced macOS Sonoma. If you jumped the gun and updated to the beta version of macOS Sonoma before it was released to the public, you may now be looking for a way to roll back to the previous release, macOS Ventura.
New features, upgrades, and tweaks are just some of the things you’ll find in macOS Sonoma. Furthermore, by installing the beta, you will get access to the majority of these features before their official release. On the other hand, they have a lot more bugs than the stable build.
If you’re having problems with the macOS Sonoma beta, such as decreased battery life or broken features, and you want to revert back to the stable Ventura release, here’s how to do it.
However, there are a few things you need to know before moving on macOS.
- You should start by formatting your Mac. Make sure you have a full backup before you format.
- When upgrading to macOS Ventura, the backup created in macOS Sonoma will not be usable.
- Charge the Mac and leave it plugged in the whole time.
- You’ll need a fast internet connection because the file size is going to be around 12 GB.
- Now that you’re prepared, here’s how to quickly and easily revert to Ventura.
- To get started, power down your Mac entirely.
- Now, press and hold the Power button to force a restart. To turn on an Intel-based Mac, press and hold the Power key and the Command-R keys.
- A window will open. To customise your experience, select “Options” and then “Continue.”
- The password for your user account will be required.
- If prompted, do not choose to reinstall macOS. Do not do that; rather, select “Disc Utility” and then “Continue.”
- Click the “Erase” button after selecting the primary partition of your hard drive.
- Click the “Erase” option again after giving your Mac a name.
- Click “Yes” again to confirm that you want to delete the information.
- Select a wireless network to which your Mac can connect.
- Click “Exit” to exit Recovery mode once your Mac has returned to normal operation.
- Select the option to “Reinstall macOS Ventura” now.
After you have erased all of your data and booted into Recovery Mode, you can then download and install macOS Ventura. This download is around 12GB in size, so be aware that it could take a while to complete, depending on the speed of your internet connection.
