Trains between Makkah and Madina will now be driven by women

Saudi Arabia has trained its first batch of female train drivers, who will soon operate the Kingdom’s bullet trains on the Haramain high-speed line connecting Makkah and Madinah.

Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) celebrated the graduation of female train drivers on New Year’s Day by tweeting a video featuring 32 graduates from the first round of training.

SAR officials believe that the achievement will encourage and inspire other women in the Kingdom to pursue careers in the railway industry.

Speaking about the achievement, Saudi Minister of Transport and Logistic Services Saleh Al Jasser stated that it is another step toward localising skills and empowering women in the railway sector.

Furthermore, he stated that the inclusion of women in the workforce is critical to the country’s prosperity, and that qualified women will soon operate trains connecting the holy cities.

It is worth noting that the female graduates received 480 hours of training in a variety of disciplines such as railway theory, work hazards, traffic, safety laws, and other technicalities.

The Makkah-Madinah Haramain train is now being driven by Saudi women. Saudi Railways has released a video of female train drivers receiving training while in the driver’s seat.

In a video clip that went viral on social media, the Saudi women can be seen busy performing their duties on the train. Saudi Railways announced that 31 indigenous women have completed high-speed train driver training.
