Samsung is rumored to be working on a new array of Exynos chipsets designed just for its Galaxy handsets.
The company’s move comes in the wake of a recent issue involving the Galaxy S22 series’ GPS and game optimization service (GOS).
Samsung is one of the few smartphone manufacturers that also produces processors.
However, the South Korean conglomerate’s Exynos chips have recently been unable to compete with the quality of Apple and Qualcomm.
Despite the fact that Samsung manufactures semiconductors, the business does not have an exclusive processor portfolio for its own handsets. However, according to the most recent study, this is about to change very soon.
According to the article, Roh Tae-moon, president of Samsung Electronics’ MX Business Division, indicated in March at a town hall meeting that the company would begin building an application processor (AP) specifically for Galaxy devices.
After an employee asked him how he planned to resolve the company’s GOS scandal, he made the comment.
The GOS controversy surrounding the recently announced Galaxy S22 series had a heavy toll on Samsung.
GOS restricts hardware performance during high-end gaming to avoid overheating and excessive power usage.
GOS, on the other hand, was detected slowing down thousands of apps without the user’s permission in Galaxy S22 handsets.
According to reports, the chipset is the major perpetrator in the GOS affair. The Galaxy S22 series is available with either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or a Samsung Exynos 2200 processor.
However, specialists have found that neither of the chips can address the overheating issue with the Galaxy S22 series.
However, Roh appears to feel that these issues may be addressed by building a semiconductor that is proprietary to Samsung cellphones, similar to what Apple has done.
Samsung has been working relentlessly to differentiate its Exynos CPUs and put them on par with Apple’s and Qualcomm’s premium offerings.
To do this, the business shifted from its Mongoose cores to ARM’s architecture, and the recently released Exynos 2200 includes a GPU developed in partnership with AMD.
