Despite the fact that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset was only released a few months ago, it appears that the business has already begun development on an updated version of the processor that will not be built by Samsung.
According to a Weibo user, Qualcomm is planning to release its 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen1+ chip shortly as a successor for the present Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chips on the market.
While the 8 Gen1 is a flagship-quality CPU that is rated as the latest and finest and is currently being supplied in select premium grade handsets, rumors say that Samsung has been experiencing chip production challenges, prompting Qualcomm to shift some 8 Gen1 productions to Taiwan-based TSMC.
As a result, the business is apparently aiming to release an improved version of the chip, created by TSMC, to replace the Samsung-made version as soon as possible.
In comparison to the Snapdragon 8 Gen1’s SM8450 model number, the version from the world’s largest contract chipmaker will also be based on the 4nm process with the model number SM8475.
While we still don’t have access to the chip’s full specifications, sources claim that the Plus edition will offer increased CPU performance via higher clock speeds, but this time with better power efficiency.
Furthermore, the chip is expected to be used in high-end smartphones such as the Xiaomi 12 Ultra and the Xiaomi Mix 5 series.
However, unless the corporation provides official confirmation of the specifications, all of these rumors should be treated with caution.
