Declaring December 25, 2023, as a holiday, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) made the official announcement on Wednesday.

The government of Pakistan decided to observe Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas together with a public holiday, therefore operations will remain closed on this date.

Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) To Remain Closed on December 25th

The PSX announced in a notice to all TRE Certificate Holders, Employees, and Interested Parties that the exchange will remain closed on Monday, December 25, 2023.

This shutdown coincides with the national holiday that the Govt. of Pakistan has proclaimed to celebrate Christmas and commemorate the birth anniversary of the country’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

However, the declaration reaffirms PSX’s dedication to time its operations to coincide with public holidays and national observances.

The PSX permits its stakeholders, including investors, brokers, and employees, to take part in the celebrations and remembrance ceremonies connected to Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas by designating December 25 as a non-working day.

Quiad-e-Azam Day Celebrations

Every year on December 25, Quaid-e-Azam Day, which is also observed as Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s birthday, is observed to honor his vision and contributions to the foundation of Pakistan.

The Christian community in Pakistan and around the world simultaneously celebrates Christmas, which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ.

The stock exchange choice is in line with Pakistan’s larger tradition of appreciating and embracing religious and cultural diversity.

Pakistan Stock Exchange helps to create an environment that is welcoming and inclusive for all parties involved by closing its doors on December 25.

Investors and market players urged to schedule their trading activity appropriately in light of the PSX’s December 25, 2023 closure.

After the public holiday, regular trading anticipated to resume on the next business day.
