Nothing, a company founded by former OnePlus CEO Carl Pei, has been teasing a smartphone for quite some time. The company has now confirmed the design of the phone as well as some of its features.
Nothing’s first smartphone, as expected, will have a transparent design similar to the company’s first TWS earbuds, Nothing Ear (1).
This was revealed by Carl Pei himself and the company’s head of design, Tom Howard. Howard says that they really wanted to “bring the inside out” and it shows on the phone’s design.
Unsurprisingly, this was not easy to accomplish, and the team had to overcome a number of obstacles. After all, a smartphone contains over 400 components.
Nothing about this design suggests that it was intended to highlight the phone’s most interesting features. This includes wireless charging coils, camera modules, and other components.
“From an industry perspective, you’re looking at components that the end user normally never sees, so you almost have to overhaul the entire manufacturing process in order to highlight them.”
We can expect the phone to have high-end hardware because it has features like wireless charging, which are typically found on flagship devices. This implies that we may see the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, a high-end display, high-end cameras, and other features.
