Norton Motorcycles intends to design and manufacture an electric motorcycle in the United Kingdom with “racing performance, touring range and light handling”, as part of a 30-month initiative co-funded by a government program.
Norton announced on Friday that the legendary British motorcycle maker, now owned by India’s TVS Motor Company, will collaborate on product development with six UK partners, including Delta Cosworth, HI Speed Ltd., and the University of Warwick.
The project has received government financing from a UK program designed to help automakers in creating a low product.
The initiative, which Norton believes will create a “substantial” number of jobs in manufacturing and R&D, is a rare blow to the UK’s struggling automotive industry. dealing with falling output as the world shifts to electric transportation.
