Kia has disclosed that the EV9 SUV, which will be released next year, will feature ‘AutoMode’ automated driving technology. AutoMode, according to the business, is the first step toward completely autonomous automobiles.
Highway Driving Pilot will be included in AutoMode, allowing the car to go along highways without the need for the driver to manage the SUV.
Kia’s AutoMode, which the company describes as a “spectrum of autonomous driving technologies,” will be further improved, with OTA updates pushing the most recent version to EV9 SUVs.
Late last year, the EV9 concept was unveiled; the SUV is planned to be roughly 16 feet (5 meters) long, with notable features including a 27-inch (69-centimeter) touchscreen and a steering yoke rather than a steering wheel.
The vehicle will have a range of 336 miles (540 kilometers), and a 6-minute charge will allow it to travel up to 62 miles (100 km).
The SUV would go from 0 to 60 mph (0 to 100 kph) in five seconds, according to Kia. The EV9 will include a ‘feature on-demand’ option, which will allow users to purchase software add-ons in addition to OTA updates, which will be a first for Kia.
Kia has stated that it intends to expand the use of AutoMode to other vehicles, but has not specified a timeline for doing so.
