Rai Mazhar Iqbal, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic, has stated that the e-challan system has resulted in fewer road accidents and violations of traffic rules in the federal capital, Islamabad.
He revealed the achievement while analyzing the cumulative impact of the e-challan system’s implementation.
More than 29,957 fines have been issued through the mechanism, which has contributed to a decrease in lane and signal violations, according to SSP Rai Mazhar Iqbal.
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) implemented the e-challan system in collaboration with the Safe City Project, and since it has proven to be very effective. It was created to ensure traffic law enforcement and is also linked to the Excise and Taxation Office (ETO).
Among the reasons for challans are line or lane violations, one-way violations, overspeeding, signal jumping, driving without lights, aggressive driving, excessive exhaust fumes, cellphone usage while driving, and seat belt and helmet violations.
Motorists receive tickets at their homes following the reporting of violations based on the Safe City cameras located throughout the city.
Meanwhile, more efforts are being made to improve the local traffic system.
