Geely unit London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) has unveiled a new, large electric-vehicle platform for vehicles ranging from minivans to commercial vans, which it claims could be used by other Geely units.

According to LEVC, the platform, dubbed Space Oriented Architecture (SOA), had been developed collaboratively over the last two and a half years in China, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Germany, and would provide EVs with greater range, faster charging, and advanced driver-assistance features.
Executives at LEVC’s Ansty, England, headquarters told reporters that the adaptable platform could be used for a variety of EVs, including pickup trucks, large SUVs, and even mobile homes.
According to LEVC, it was reported earlier this year to be considering a significant investment to transform the company that manufactures London’s renowned black taxis into a high-volume, all-electric brand with a variety of commercial and passenger vehicles.
Geely owns several brands, including Lotus, a British sports car manufacturer, Zeekr, Volvo, Polestar, and Proton. Farizon, Geely’s commercial van brand, already exists.
As a result, the Chinese automaker is confronted with complexities that more prominent EV manufacturers BYD and Tesla have avoided.
According to LEVC Managing Director Chris Allen, the brand was positioning itself within the group to provide larger EVs that “give more space, more opportunities, more flexibility with a larger vehicle size.”
