Following the approval of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, up to 27 new electric buses will soon be on the roads of Lahore.

The purchase of the new buses was approved during a provincial transportation sector project review meeting. Nawaz Sharif, former Prime Minister, also attended the meeting.

CM Maryam directed officials to provide maximum relief to the public by keeping bus fares in Punjab low. The meeting also approved the expansion of Metro Bus projects to three additional provincial cities.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed that the number of bikes available to students under the government’s scheme be increased. He also instructed to keep the monthly installment for students’ bikes as low as possible.

The meeting was briefed on the 20,000 bikes, which included 19,000 petrol bikes and 1,000 electric bikes. The Punjab government has partnered with the Punjab Bank (BOP) to provide these bikes.

The monthly installments for e-bikes and petrol bikes are Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 5,000, respectively. To ensure transparency, it has been decided that a draw will be held in May of this year, and bike deliveries will begin that month.
