China’s vehicle export volume has skyrocketed, with sales already exceeding one million units, representing a massive 43 percent year-on-year increase.
According to the General Administration of Customs of China, the export volume from January to May 2022 was 1.08 million units.
In May 2022 alone, 230,000 Chinese vehicles were exported to various parts of the world, a 35 percent increase year on year.
According to the China Association of Automotive Manufacturers, China exported 43,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in May, a 130.5 percent increase year on year (CAAM). From January to May, China exported a total of 174,000 NEVs, a 141.5 percent increase year on year.
In 2021, China exported over 2 million vehicles
Last year, Chinese vehicle exports increased 100 percent year on year to a record 2.015 million units, propelling China to third place in the world by 2021.
This was also the first time China’s automobile exports surpassed 2 million units. Previously, China’s annual export volume was around 1 million units.
According to CAAM data, passenger vehicle exports accounted for 1.614 million units, commercial vehicles for 402,000 units, and NEVs for 310,000 units. Japan ranked first that year, exporting 3.82 million vehicles, followed by Germany, which exported 2.3 million vehicles in 2021.
