Apple has delayed the release of its smart car until 2026. The automaker is also abandoning grandiose plans to incorporate level-3 autonomous driving into its vehicles.
The company had originally planned to release its first car in 2025. According to the source, those plans have come to a halt due to a radical change in the company’s hierarchy and a mass exodus of employees earlier this year.
According to the report, by the time Apple unveils its car, it will be the most delayed project in automotive history, even more so than the contentious Tesla Cybertruck.
According to reports, the project’s leadership has changed several times. Kevin Lynch took over as project manager in September 2021, succeeding John Giannandrea.
While the company has not confirmed or denied this claim, speculations suggest that the team was dissolved due to a change in leadership.
The US-based technology behemoth is considering Foxconn and Luxshare as EV project partners. Because these two companies are already involved in EV development, Apple hopes to leverage their expertise.
For years, rumours and conspiracies have dogged Apple’s EV development plans. According to analysts, the vehicle will not be released anytime soon.
However, given the company’s own EV launch deadline of 2025, it is likely that another EV development team will be formed soon.
