Apple unveiled a premium digital watch on Wednesday along with the new iPhone 14 at a cost that is comparable to prior models despite inflation and supply chain issues.

While there were no surprises revealed during a 90-minute presentation at the company’s California headquarters, the tech giant did introduce a new digital identity system that does away with the requirement for a physical sim card.

The base model of the company’s newest smartphone, the iPhone 14, is $799, the same price as the current model, while a more expensive iPhone 14 Pro Max will cost $1,100.

New earphones are part of the upgraded product lineup that is intended to keep customers invested in the company’s profitable technological environment.

“Apple continued its strong growth in the first half of 2022, driven by robust demand for the iPhone 13 — which was the best-selling smartphone worldwide,” said Le Xuan Chiew, an analyst at Canalys.

After China’s zero-tolerance Covid policies hampered production there, the ability to maintain flat iPhone prices was a reflection of the advantages of spreading the supply chain to India, the analyst claimed.

The launch event, according to Wedbush analyst Dan Ives, highlighted Apple’s prowess in logistics.

“Taking a step back, launching 3 new core hardware products within the Apple ecosystem despite the biggest supply chain crisis seen in modern history is a major feat for Cook & Co., especially with the zero Covid shutdowns in China seen in April/May,” Ives said.

The new iPhone 14 has improved photographic capabilities to capture “ultra-wide” vistas and low-light conditions, as well as a more resilient battery.

The phones also have an “emergency SOS” feature that allows users to message emergency services even when they are not within WiFi range.

The 6.7-inch (17-centimeter) widescreen on the iPhone 14 Plus provides a superior viewing and gaming experience.

Company representatives highlighted new digital watches with improved functions. The $400 Apple Watch Series 8 can measure body temperature and other bodily functions.

In addition, the firm revealed the $800 Apple Watch Ultra, which, in the words of the company’s press release, “features a battery with enough lifespan for hard-core athletes to complete a long-course triathlon.”
