Apple Inc. announced on Monday that its software would be more fully integrated into automobiles, as well as a plethora of new collaboration and safety features.
Apple also stated that its new MacBook Air laptop was rebuilt around its new M2 silicon processor, which is 35 percent quicker than the previous M1 chip, according to the company.
The new laptop will weigh 2.7 pounds (1.2 kilograms) and have a 1080p high-definition camera for clearer video conversations. Apple revealed at its annual software developer conference that the MacBook Air will start at $1,199.
The M2 CPU will also power the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which will be available next month for $ 1,299 starting price. Apple is targeting the back-to-school season with a $100 discount for education clients.
Apple demonstrated a new car dashboard that, according to the company, will be able to display important indicators such as speed and gas consumption.
Apple stated that automakers like Ford Motor Company, Nissan Motor Company, and Honda Motor Corporation intend to integrate the new CarPlay software in future vehicles.
Users will also be able to buy now and pay later, according to Apple. Apple Pay Later will work wherever Apple Pay is accepted and will be controlled through the Apple Wallet.
Users can pay in four equal installments without incurring any interest or fees. Apple also included an edit option to iMessage for transmitted messages, a long-requested feature that Twitter had yet to implement.
Apple shares were up less than 1% an hour into the presentation, identical to where they were at the start.
Apple made no mention of future products, such as a mixed-reality headset.
This would be Apple’s first foray into a new computing category since the Apple Watch was debuted in 2015, and it would pit it against Meta, which has revealed plans for a mixed-reality headgear code-named “Cambria” to be released this year.
