Active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan cross 1,200 Mark

According to health sources, the number of active Covid-19 cases in Pakistan has surpassed 1,200.

According to figures released by NIH sources, Pakistan currently has 1,243 active Covid-19 cases, while over 1.5 million people have recovered from the deadly virus.

According to the sources, the recovery rate from Covid-19 in Pakistan is 98 percent, with up to 1,214 people still quarantined across the country.

According to sources, 637 people are quarantined in Sindh, 240 in Punjab, 106 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 188 in Islamabad, 3 in Balochistan, and 13 in Gilgit Baltistan. In addition, three people in Pakistan are currently using ventilators.

Meanwhile, last week, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) advised wearing masks in crowded and tightly enclosed spaces, as well as healthcare facilities.

NCOC issued guidelines for the period up to April 30, 2023, taking into account the current Covid-19 trend across the country.

The COVID-19 positivity rate in Karachi has reached 28.30%, according to a health authority official, after 30 of 106 people tested positive for the viral infection.

Meanwhile, the countrywide positivity rate was only 3%, with three out of every hundred people testing positive for the pandemic.

“COVID-19 positivity rate has started rising in the country since 100 individuals tested positive during the last 24 hours after as many as 3,147 tests were conducted across the country registering 3.18% COVID-19 positivity rate”, an official of the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad told the source.

According to NIH Islamabad data, the COVID-19 positivity rate in three major cities — Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar — was more than 10%.

The positivity rate increased to 12.20% in Islamabad, where 25 people tested positive out of 205 tests for the virus, while Peshawar saw a 14.29% positivity rate, with 14 people testing positive out of 94 tests.

In Lahore, however, the positivity rate remained at 4.14%, with 18 new cases of COVID-19 detected in 435 tests. Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan, and Gilgit Baltistan were identified as COVID-19-free areas, with no cases of the virus reported.
