Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal has instructed the key players, including the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) and National Database Registration Authority (NADRA), to prepare a draft in this regard following the successful completion of the nation’s first pilot digital census on Wednesday.
The Council of Common Interest (CII) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), he added, would get a summary following the draft in preparation for the country’s first-ever digital census, which would take place in advance of the General Elections scheduled for 2023.
The Minister gave these instructions while presiding over a meeting on Wednesday, following the conclusion of the pilot digital census.
The Director General NADRA and the Chief Statistics PBS both attended the meeting.
The chief statistician from PBS informed the minister at the meeting that the digital pilot census had ended on Wednesday and had, for the most part, been successful.
The Minister will get a thorough presentation in this regard the following week.
The first shipment of equipment needed for the census will arrive in Pakistan from China on August 20.
Following that, training for the census employees will begin, NADRA informed the Minister during the meeting DG.
The Minister instructed the officials to involve academics and university students from all around the nation in the training process so that the statistics student would learn something, in addition to conducting independent verification of the training.
The Minister further ordered that new voter registration lists be produced by July 1 of 2023 so that ECP may hold elections using the lists.
