100-year-old Brazilian sets world record for longest career in the same firm

Walter Orthmann, a Brazilian, holds the Guinness World Record for the longest career in the same company, having worked there for more than 84 years.

According to GWR’s blog, the 100-year-old has worked for the same firm for 84 years and 9 days, as of January 6, 2022.

Orthmann began his job as a shipping assistant at Industrias Renaux S.A, a textile company situated in Santa Catarina, when he was fifteen years old, believing in the power of the present.

He was promoted to a sales position immediately after entering the company, owing to his desire to learn new abilities. After that, he rose through the ranks to become a successful Sales Manager.

According to GWR, he is in good health and has exceptional mental acuity and memory.

Walter broke his own record of 81 years and 85 days, which he achieved in 2019.

By trusting in the power of the present, Walter has had a record-breaking career with many memorable moments.

“I don’t plan ahead of time and am unconcerned about tomorrow. All I care about is that tomorrow will be another day in which I will wake up, get dressed, exercise, and go to work; you must focus on the present rather than the past or future. What matters is the present moment. So, let’s get started!”

Breaking a Guinness World Record is both an honour and a privilege for Walter. He could never have envisaged himself achieving one.
