With more than 2 billion active users each month, YouTube is one of the most popular websites and it intends to stay that way.
Google teamed up with other streaming services to develop a service with YouTube at the center in order to sustain and grow its user base.
It’s nothing new for YouTube to offer premium membership services. In 2015, the website introduced YouTube Premium (formerly known as YouTube Red), which offered several benefits and features to customers who chose to pay for it.
For Google, the service has been a success, attracting more than 50 million customers by Q3 2021.
In order to compete with cable providers and other live-streaming platforms, Google also introduced YouTube TV.
With an amazing 5 million members as of 2022, YouTube TV has surpassed Hulu + Live TV as the most popular of these services. Google is introducing “Primetime Channels” in an effort to increase platform viewership.
Users can access all of their streaming needs in one place with the help of the feature, which serves as a gateway for other TV providers like Showtime and Paramount+.
The notion is not new. This is something that smart TVs and Amazon Prime have been doing for a long.
The service’s integration inside YouTube offers consumers exceptional ease. It’s possible to watch a Hardware Unboxed video on YouTube and then switch right away to your preferred Paramount+ program.
Over 30 YouTube channels are available for subscribers to watch on the website or app.
The extensive list of services offered with Primetime Channels’ initial launch includes:
- Showtime
- Paramount+
- Starz
- AMC+
- Epix
- Shudder
- Acorn TV
- Here TV
- CuriosityStream
- Comedy Dynamics
- Up Faith & Family
- Hallmark Movies Now
- All BLK
- Vix+
- ConTV
- Docurama
- Moviesphere
- Dove Channel
- IFC
- ScreenPix
- Fandor
- Law & Crime
- Screambox
- Dekkoo
- Tastemade+
- Outside TV+
- Gaia
- Atres Player
- VSiN
- Topic
- Magnolia Selects
- The Great Courses
It’s important to note that consumers will only get access to the platforms’ streaming libraries of episodes and films.
Users must access the provider’s live TV alternatives. For instance, Paramount+ offers live regional CBS coverage.
Primetime Channels will only offer video on demand; live programming will not be supported.
It’s not clear if Primetime Channels subscriptions are linked to your account directly or if they can be utilized elsewhere besides YouTube. Once the service is made available to users, Google will probably provide an answer to this query.
Subscriptions are linked to the hosting platform, though, based on other services like Amazon Prime.
Primetime Channels was meant to launch today, however, at the time of publication, we were unable to access it.
