Yellow Heart, a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace for ticketing, music, and community tokens, has collaborated with Julian Lennon, the son of The Beatles’ founder John Lennon, to convert his first recording of John Lennon’s iconic song Imagine into an NFT.

The NFT will include a recording of the original track as well as audio and visual interpretations of the song, according to the announcement. The NFT will also include Julian’s personal narration explaining what inspired him to perform the song for the first time.

Julian’s acoustic performance is accompanied on the audio by co-producer Nuno Bettencourt on guitar and backing vocals.

The visuals, on the other hand, are black and white pencil strokes of John Lennon’s image that evolves with pockets of light throughout the song.

Julian recently performed his rendition of Imagine for Global Citizen’s Stand Up for Ukraine campaign, which raised $10.1 billion for refugees.

The White Feather Foundation, Julian’s non-profit, will donate a portion of the proceeds from the NFT sale to Ukraine refugee relief. Starting on Friday, May 20, fans will be able to purchase the NFT for $11. The sale will run for 11 days.

Using music and NFTs to heal and comfort oppressed people

The War on Ukraine is an unimaginable tragedy, and as a human and an artist I have always felt that music finds a way to heal, comfort, rally and support during times of crisis.

He went on to say that performing Imagine was a personal but obvious choice because the lyrics reflect humanity’s collective desire for global peace.

Julian added that collaborating with Yellow Heart to offer NFT artwork that includes his interpretation of the song allows fans to connect and unite in a new, innovative way through the song’s message of unity.

Josh Katz, co-founder and CEO of Yellow Heart, stated: We are all passionate about supporting the relief efforts for Ukraine, and we are proud that Julian has enlisted Yellow Heart to help support his philanthropic work and honor the inspirational messages in the song by providing a platform for fans to engage with this historic moment.

This news comes as music-based NFTs continue to gain popularity. Universal Music Group (UMG) partnered with LimeWire earlier this week to make music digital collectibles more accessible.

This agreement involved UMG artists and labels experimenting with digital collectibles through the LimeWire marketplace.
