Xiaomi and its MIUI Android interface have been inseparable since 2010. MIUI has steadily grown to a global user base of more than 564 million monthly active users, with the most recent iteration, MIUI 14, released in December.

However, it appears that Xiaomi is planning a significant change in its custom interface for the next release, as reliable insider ‘Digital Chat Station’.
He predicts that Xiaomi will replace MIUI with an entirely new operating system, MiOS. The precise nature of MiOS is still unknown.
It is unclear whether MiOS will be another Android overlay user interface similar to MIUI or if Xiaomi is developing an entirely new mobile operating system.
AOSP-based Operating System
Earlier rumors suggested that Xiaomi planned to follow Huawei’s lead and launch its own Android Open Source Project (AOSP)-based operating system for use in smartphones, tablets, wearables, and even electric vehicles.
Even if it is a new operating system, it will most likely be heavily influenced by the already existing and long-standing MIUI.
Xiaomi is unlikely to simply abandon what they’ve been working on for over a decade in favor of something new. This rebranding could be similar to what Xiaomi did with its older phones’ “Mi” moniker.
The company dropped the “Mi” from its phones a while ago, so their phones are now simply referred to as “Xiaomi 14” rather than “Xiaomi Mi 14.”

Xiaomi has already registered the MiOS trademark and registered the domain mios.cn in China. Furthermore, the existence of a MiOS developer beta has been widely reported in Chinese media.
