The next Windows 12 release almost finished, and it will likely bring in a new era of AI computing.
Launch of Windows 12 Expected in June 2024
A recent report from the Chinese financial newspaper Commercial Times claims that Windows 12 will launch in June 2024, or summer of 2024, to be exact.
The launch window appears to have been taken from remarks made on November 30 by Acer CEO and chairman Jason Chen, as well as Quanta chairman Lin Baili, while they were in town for the Taiwan Medical Technology Exhibition.
The chairman of Quanta remarked on the rise in generative AI expenditures in the last few years, which topped $1.37 billion in 2022, or nearly the sum of the five years prior put together.
AI PC Launches
Additionally, he stated that he anticipates a series of AI PC launches once Windows 12 will release.
Although Baili acknowledged that it is difficult to predict demand, the executive thinks there will be a good opportunity for the industry.
Similar opinions voiced by Chen, CEO of Acer, who doesn’t seem convince that AI PC sales will soar overnight.
Instead, it will take some time for customer behavior to change in response to their offerings.
AI PCs will eventually result in new usage models, which will increase demand even more.
A mid-2024 release date for Windows 12 corresponds with previous rumors regarding the matter.
Intel CFO Dave Zinsner stated in October that a “Windows Refresh” anticipated for the following year.
Previous Rumor
A previous rumor suggested that Windows 12 would launch in the fall of 2024, with a full release planned for 2025.
Speaking at the time, it was implied that the OS would heavily emphasize artificial intelligence (AI) and that it might contain distinct “states” that resided in various locations on your hard drive.
According to reports, Redmond will find it easier to manage and update the OS with this feature, and end users will find it less tedious.
The upcoming operating system may also include a floating taskbar, which was unintentionally hinted at during Microsoft’s 2023 Ignite conference.
