The much-anticipated 16th edition of the Asia Cup kicks off today at the Multan Cricket Stadium with Pakistan taking against Nepal. After having been a 20-over tournament in previous years, the tournament has been contested in ODI format for the first time since 2018.
After losing in the final to Sri Lanka in 2022, Pakistan will be eager to rewrite history and win the championship this time around. The Babar Azam-led squad is feeling confident after sweeping the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka.
The Men in Green’s confidence has been boosted by their victory, and they now sit atop the ICC’s ODI team rankings. However, Nepal, who will be participating in the Asia Cup for the first time, qualified for the tournament by winning their qualifying round in May.
Although they are making their Asia Cup debut, the Nepalese cricket squad is no stranger to the pressures of international competition.
