Volkswagen engineers have created a high-tech office chair with a feature set that is surprisingly extensive and capable of running at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour.
The goal of Volkswagen’s one-of-a-kind project was to apply some of the features found in the company’s automobiles to the design of an office chair.
In addition to a built-in motor and driving control system, this office chair has seat belts and built-in speakers.
This cutting-edge office chair’s armrests include headlights, LED party lights, USB charging ports, and a small storage space for documents. A backup camera, collision avoidance sensors, and a touchscreen display are among the other features.
Volkswagen claims that this high-tech office chair can travel 12 kilometres on a single charge of the installed battery; the battery can also be easily replaced if it becomes damaged.
First and foremost, there is safety, which is why the chair has a seatbelt.
Every function is controlled by a control panel on the right side, which thankfully has physical buttons, knobs, and switches, and an infotainment touchscreen display on the left, which is linked to an audio system.
In addition to parking sensors, the screen can display the feed from a rear-view camera to help users reverse through tight spaces. Finally, there is a USB port for charging devices while on the go.
Furthermore, the chair has a small boot that can only fit small laptops and paperwork. It has a storage capacity of 5 lt (0.18 cubic feet).
For those who need to transport more items around the office, VW engineers added a trailer hitch. Although the chair’s towing capacity is unknown, we believe it could easily tow a small trailer or even a high-end printer.
The VW Office chair is undeniably an over engineered piece of furniture, but it will not be produced.
Those who want to experience it for themselves can apply for “test drives” that will be offered in a few locations across Norway in the coming months.
