Explaining the UAE’s Methods for Setting Gasoline Prices

The UAE government maintained long periods of price stability for fuel prior to 2015. Because of this, costs were not factored into the price structure.

Fuel prices in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were market-determined in 2015, meaning they were subject to fluctuations due to factors such as supply and demand, the price of crude oil, and the overall state of the economy.

The UAE government chose to rein down fuel costs in 2020, at the commencement of the COVID-19 epidemic, to help its citizens and companies weather the storm.

The United Arab Emirates decided in March 2021 to allow fuel prices to once again be set by market forces, thus deregulating them.
