According to the source, US President Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order on artificial intelligence (AI) regulation on October 24.
The order, which is expected to be signed on Monday, Oct. 30, is said to have at least three objectives.
First, the order will require advanced AI models to be evaluated before they are used by the US government and federal employees.
It is unclear which models this rule may apply to and what criteria the evaluation may include.
Second, the order will charge a number of US agencies, including the Departments of Defense, Energy, and Intelligence, with investigating how they might use AI to improve national cybersecurity.
According to the Washington Post, the executive order will also make it easier for skilled tech workers to immigrate to the United States.

Separate Semafor reports dating back to September 27 indicate that the order will require cloud firms to report on how tech companies use cloud computing resources.
This rule is designed to detect foreign AI projects that may pose a national security risk.
Though the Wall Street Journal’s sources declined to comment on that aspect of the executive order, Politico reports on Oct. 12 that it is still on track.
Some critics have expressed concern that any surveillance effort focusing on quantity-based monitoring of cloud computing resources could have an impact on non-AI industries such as game development and Bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining.
The order’s specifics, while supported by numerous sources, have yet to be finalized. According to current reports, the details and timing are subject to change.
Aside from issuing the order, Biden and the White House are reportedly planning an event on Oct. 30 called “Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.” In September, President Trump spoke to the United Nations about AI regulation.
