Twitter is working on a real-time edit button

On Tuesday, Twitter revealed that it is working on a means to edit tweets. Last year, Twitter began experimenting with a tweet-editing function, which it will now put to the test in Twitter Blue Labs, a section of the platform’s premium subscription package where it tries out new features.

According to the business, an edit tweet button will be available “in the coming months” for Twitter Blue subscriber.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, announced on Monday that he had purchased a 9.2 percent stake in Twitter and would be joining the board of directors.

In typical Musk manner, the iconoclastic billionaire revealed the existence of an edit button in a tweet a day before the firm chose to make an official announcement.

Twitter has shown an unusual readiness to alter its platform based on user feedback, so it will be interesting to see how the test goes.

It’s easy to discover compelling arguments in support of or against altering tweets, but it’s much more difficult to figure out what the majority of people really want.

Some Twitter power users have been clamoring for an edit tweet button for years, while others are wary of making disinformation and harassment even more difficult to handle on a social media platform already plagued by major issues.

In the past, the firm has downplayed its interest in allowing users to edit tweets, claiming that the functionality was low on the company’s priority list.

But Twitter in 2022 is a completely different beast, one that bears little similarity to the sluggish social platform of the past — and one that is no longer run by CEO Jack Dorsey, who faced investor pressure at the end of his term to speed up the firm.
