Toyota announced this week that it will release ten battery electric vehicle (BEV) models by 2026 in the premium, SUV, compact, sedan, commercial, MPV, and sports segments.

CEO Koji Sato advised hatchback EVs for the expanding ASEAN markets. The lack of clear images in the sedan market suggests that the product for the developing market is still under development.

The launch of 10 new models and the opening of a new EV manufacturing facility were both announced by Toyota Vice President Hiroki Nakajima in April.

In line with Sato’s remarks, the EVs of 2026 will make use of new platforms, powertrains, and technical tools. The Japanese producer wants to sell 1.5 million BEVs by 2026.

This week, the automobile giant said that it will reorganize its electric vehicle (EV) business by dissolving its zero-emissions vehicle (ZEV) unit and establishing a BEV factory, a specialized organization that would hasten EV development and commercial expansion.

The company says it plans to provide a variety of environmentally friendly powertrain substitutes. But now, EV development will come first.
