Toyota Crown Cross and Crown Range have been introduced

The all-new Toyota Crown in its fastback form, known as the Crown Cross, was supposed to make its debut on July 15th, but Toyota surprised everyone by unveiling a whole new Crown range that includes a crossover, sports hatchback, sedan, and estate.

The new Crown range, the 16th generation of the iconic nameplate, was unveiled at a special event in Japan. The Crown was first introduced in 1955 and has survived for over 65 years and 15 generations in its saloon form.

Toyota’s development team in charge of the new Crown went through a thorough re-examination of what the Crown name meant, and in Toyota’s own words, the outgoing Crown became “unable to fully meet the diversifying needs of its customers” as a result, resulting in this significant shift.

Toyota has only shown the exterior designs of the other three vehicles so far, opting to black out all of their windows at the event, possibly because the interior isn’t ready yet. Toyota’s TNGA-K modular platform underpins all Crown iterations.

Among the displayed iterations is the Crown Cross, which combines the form of a sedan with that of an SUV.

Different models:

  1. The red one is Sport, which is essentially a large hatchback that provides a “sporty driving experience” in a user-friendly package.
  2. The grey one is a Sedan aimed at the chauffeur-driven segment, while the mustard one is an Estate and, according to Toyota, is a “functional SUV with a mature atmosphere” with plenty of space.
  3. The Crown Cross leads the market debut, having already been unveiled in the United States and Japan. It is expected to go on sale towards the end of this year, while Toyota says the new Crown series will be available in around 40 countries and regions worldwide.

Toyota expects to sell approximately 200,000 units per year once all four Crown iterations are available in early 2024.
