Tiktok's new portal helps PTA block forbidden material

TikTok told the Peshawar High Court it gave the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) a special portal to remove offensive content. This came in a letter to the Chief Justice.

The letter answered a petition to ban the app for offensive content. TikTok received reports about this content. It has strict rules against offensive material in Pakistan.

TikTok said it takes offensive content seriously. It gave the PTA a special portal to report and block such material. Short video-sharing platform blocked the reported offensive content. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has not reported any new offensive material recently.

After news reports, TikTok asked the PTA to report any offensive content through the portal. The short video-sharing platform has not decided on its role in the ongoing court case. It assured compliance with local laws about offensive content.

TikTok remains committed to local rules. It wants to keep a safe platform for users in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s PTA Banned TikTok, Tinder and Grindr -2020

In 2020, Pakistan took action against Tinder, Grindr, and three other apps because they thought these apps were not good. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) told these apps to follow the rules about dating and live videos. When the apps did not do what PTA asked, PTA stopped them. Tagged, SayHi, and Skout were also stopped. PTA said maybe they would let these apps work again if the companies promised to control what people share.

Before this, Pakistan warned YouTube and TikTok to remove bad videos or be stopped like YouTube was before for three years. Pakistan’s laws are strict about same-sex love and cheating. Grindr, which helps LGBT people, was watched carefully.

Pakistan’s cybercrime law lets PTA stop online stuff they do not like without asking a judge. This makes sure people follow the rules online. Earlier in 2020, Pakistan stopped Bigo for being bad and also stopped the PUBG game app for a while.
