By June of this year, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) plans to create ten software technology parks.
The initiative intends to establish a network of technology parks in Pakistan’s secondary and tertiary cities and towns by converting public/private owned, dilapidated or defunct office buildings/factories/warehouses to provide IT & ITeS enterprises with affordable IT-enabled office space.
The goal of establishing software technology parks in existing building facilities in Pakistan’s secondary and tertiary cities, as well as Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, is to provide IT SME’s and startups with cost-effective, affordable office space and reliable ICT infrastructure with uninterrupted internet services and electric power supply.
Buildings have been identified in eight cities, according to PSEB: Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jamshoro, Abbottabad, Mangora Sawat, and Khuzdar. The establishment of STPs in Manhesra and Quetta is now underway.
The Pakistan Software Export Board and the Balochistan Campus of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences have signed an agreement to build a software technology park at the university.
In May, the initiative will hold an open house when companies will be invited to see the facility and submit input.
Following that, the IT businesses will reach an agreement on the location and award the contract for available space.
According to PSEB, the project was launched to deliver cutting-edge IT sector facilities, as well as uninterrupted high-speed internet access and training to the region’s young and IT professionals, all under one roof.
IT Park will give private IT enterprises and experts with space, contemporary facilities, training, and guidance to help them grow their businesses.
During the first 12 months of the establishment of the particular STP and for the duration of the project life, occupant companies will receive a 25% rental subsidy and free internet access.
These STPs will not only strengthen relationships between university and business, but will also bridge gaps in technology and infrastructure access in secondary and tertiary cities, hence boosting IT exports.
