Those who sign up for the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP) can get free flour. The target audience for this programme is low-income households that are having trouble making ends meet.
Individuals can verify their eligibility for free flour by texting their NIC number to 8070, then visiting the centre with the original NIC once eligibility has been confirmed.
The BISP app user must then scan their ID, receive the slip, and retrieve the flour from a truck in the hub. It’s important to note that each household is limited to three bags overall, and that they can only receive one bag at a time. After waiting eight days, a second bag will be provided.
Free flour under BISP is highly appreciable
This effort has not been without criticism, despite its good intentions. Concerns regarding the distribution procedure have been raised after reports of people dying while waiting in line to receive the free flour.
Several low-income families have benefited from this programme despite the problems. Food and other basics are becoming increasingly expensive, so any help is greatly appreciated.
Yet, the government must guarantee a secure and effective distribution system, or else more people would perish in a futile search for free facility.
