The "Roshni Baji Women Ambassador Program" of K-Electric has won one of the most prestigious global energy awards in New York

The Roshni Baji Women Ambassador Program of K-Electric was recognized at the 23rd Annual S&P Global Platts Energy Awards in New York.

This is the first time a Pakistani company has won such a prestigious award in the Corporate Social Responsibility – Diversified Program Category, which is often referred to as the “Oscars” of the energy industry.

KE was a finalist in three categories this year, including ‘Chief Trailblazer of the Year,’ ‘Corporate Social Responsibility Award – Diversified,’ and ‘Engineering Solution of the Year,’ out of 190+ firms from 29 countries.

KE’s Roshni Baji Women Ambassador Program strives to empower women by giving them economic independence and the knowledge they need to become ambassadors in their neighborhoods, spreading awareness about safety, power theft risks, and energy conservation in general.

This involves teaching them how to ride and maintain a bicycle, as well as martial arts and self-defense training and certification as Pakistan’s first female electricians.

The Roshni Baji initiative was created in accordance with the United Nations’ 5th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 5), which calls for gender equality and women’s empowerment by 2030.

Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi – CEO, K-Electric stated, “This is a historic win not only for K-Electric but also for the entire power sector of Pakistan. We see this recognition as a big leap forward for the entire industry towards putting it on the global map.”

Sadia Dada – CMCO at K-Electric said, “We are delighted that through this prestigious award, we have received global recognition for our efforts to bring about a positive change in our society and increase the participation of women in the power sector that remained underrepresented by them.”

KE is an open and equal opportunity employer that continues to encourage, equip, and empower women from a wide range of races, origins, and ages, and is committed to ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future for future generations.
