In Block 1 of the Thar coalfield, Thar, the Sindh government identified 3 billion tons of coal reserves.
According to the state government’s official notification, the discovered reserves represent Pakistan’s second largest coal deposits. These reserves are estimated to be 5 billion barrels of crude oil.
Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan all have coal deposits. Pakistan’s total coal resources are estimated to be at 185 billion tons.
Pakistan is ranked 38th in the world in terms of coal consumption, accounting for around 0.9 percent of the global total of 1,139,471,430 tons.
Murad Ali Shah, the Chief Minister of Sindh, thanked the people of the country on the finding of large reserves that will be sufficient for the generation of power and other uses in the future.
According to him, the finding is critical to Tharparkar’s development and progress, as well as the province’s overall progress.
The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) said late last year that it would spend €10.8 million on a disc insulator and hardware string for the 500-kilovolt SECL (Thar block-I) to Matiari double-circuit transmission line to provide power from the 1,320-megawatt SECL Coal Power Plant.
