Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, today introduced Telenor Pakistan’s ‘Khushaal Watan’ platform at the company’s 345 campus in Islamabad. ‘Khushaal Watan,’ a project aimed at stimulating agricultural innovation and strengthening the country’s agriculture ecosystem, is designed to digitally enable the rural communities and farmers.
The event also included a conversation amongst Telenor Pakistan, GSMA, and Tabadlab specialists to contribute to a report with crucial recommendations to help the country’s agriculture ecosystem thrive.
Pakistan’s agriculture sector accounts for half of the country’s labour force and provides 24% to the country’s GDP. The updated and advanced ‘Khushaal Watan’ platform is packed with exceptional capabilities, such as live video calls with specialists in and out of the field, ranging from livestock experts to medical and legal experts to boost this key sector of the country.
The platform’s customised, localised services provide users with timely information on weather, healthcare, crops, and livestock management, as well as the necessary pest and disease information. Telenor Pakistan is in the forefront of digitalizing the agriculture ecosystem for prosperous rural communities across the country, thanks to the advanced ‘Khushaal Watan’ platform.
Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, addressed the crowd at the ceremony. He said, “With fast-evolving developments in technology impacting economies around the world, it is important that we take along every person and every sector to match the pace of change through digitalization.”
“Agriculture is the largest contributing sector towards Pakistan’s foreign exchequer while employing half of the country’s labor force; this depicts the great potential that can be harnessed through digital interventions to enhance productivity.”
