Syed Amin Ul Haque, the federal minister of information technology and telecommunications, urged tougher penalties on Wednesday for telcos that don’t raise the standard of their services.
Telcos To Adopt A Better Mindset
In Islamabad, the minister told the National Assembly Committee on IT & Telecom that telcos need to adopt a different mindset in order to provide better services. For operators who are unable to take the appropriate action in this regard, he called for higher penalties.
In a later interaction with reporters, Amin Ul Haque stated that the structure for the MoITT’s priority social media policies had reached its final stage. He noted that the federal cabinet will shortly receive relevant rules for this purpose for approval.
The minister responded to a question about the presence of anti-state and blasphemous content on social media by saying that initiatives to prevent such content were in place.
When questioned further on the matter, the minister said everyone has the freedom to talk freely as long as they do so within Pakistan’s legal framework and Constitution.
