According to a recent article, Spotify is planning a major redesign of its subscription programs and price structure.
Among the adjustments will be price increases in some major areas, as well as the launch of a new plan that excludes audiobooks.
According to the reported modifications, individual subscriptions will increase by about $1 per month and family and pair plans by up to $2 per month in markets such as the United Kingdom, Australia, Pakistan, and two undisclosed regions.
Insiders predict that the company’s primary market, the United States, will see a price increase “later this year.”
Additional Fee
According to reports, the additional fee is designed to cover the costs of selling audiobooks, a service that Spotify recently launched. Subscribers can listen to audiobooks for up to 15 hours each month.
Despite the fact that it is seen as ‘free’ by users, the corporation must compensate audiobook producers for all of their listening time.
Thus far, Spotify has only received income from audiobook listeners who have exceeded the aforementioned restriction.
Spotify Subscripted Tier
As a result, the new Spotify subscription tier will remove audiobooks while keeping music and audiobooks.
This tier will have the same cost as the current premium tier, but consumers will have to pay more to access audiobooks.
To summarise, Spotify added audiobooks to its premium plan, increased the price, and then offered a new tier without audiobooks.
Added Audiobooks
Additional subscription levels are also in the works, including a “supremium” membership that will include the highly sought-after lossless audio for music, known as high-fidelity audio, “among other features” that are not specified. This layer has been leaked for several years and may be ready to launch soon.
The previous year, Spotify issued its first price increase since the launch of its premium tier.
This change had no negative implications; contrary, the site experienced tremendous growth, with its user base rising by 113 million, the most significant increase in its history.
